Hunger
"When writing about famine, people often focus on the misery and tragedy. When they write about people during famine, they usually think of individuals consumed by thoughts of death. I want to write a short story with a different perspective. In the midst of utter despair, even when death is near, these people do not dwell on dying but instead strive for life, holding onto hope and faith in the future. They still want to live, to live fully as human beings.
I would like to quote the words of Kim Lân about his work 'The Picked Wife' – the initial inspiration for my current project.
The drawings on the dress are hand-drawn, based on photos of the 1945 famine taken by photographer Võ An Ninh. The red dog paw prints are directly printed from real dog paws, with the assistance of Linh and my mother. Thank you very much – and the stories behind them, I ask to keep to myself."
